The Toyota Tundra has a long-standing reputation for rugged capability, practical versatility, and peerless reliability. The Tundra's second generation was one of the longest in the industry, lasting 15 years. Toyota managed to keep it fresh along the way. But for 2022, the automaker has given its full-size truck a much-deserved overhaul, debuting the all-new third-gen Tundra with sweeping improvements to every aspect of the driving experience. The segment offers several notable options, but Tundra's well-rounded package is more than competitive. Here's a quick look at a few areas where it surpasses the Ram 1500.
- Infotainment: Tundra comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing seamless and cable-free access to smartphone features like hands-free calls, Google and Apple Maps, streaming media, and more. You'd have to move up four trim levels to get similar features on the Ram 1500, and wireless smartphone integration isn't available.
- Advanced Safety Features: The new Tundra comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, equipping features like Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist. The Ram 1500 reserves collision mitigation for the fourth-tier Laramie trim. Adaptive cruise control and lane-departure mitigation aren't standard on any trim and are only available on the highest tiers.
- Standard Power: The Tundra's base engine is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 making 348 horsepower/405 pound-feet of torque on SR models and 389 horsepower/479 lb-ft on other trims. The RAM 1500's first five trims equip a standard 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. A 5.8-liter V-8 (395 hp, 410 lb-ft) is available but doesn't match the Tundra's torque.
