The Toyota Sequoia is one of the most capable, most spacious big family vehicles made in America. This massive three-row SUV is about to unveil an array of new features and upgrades to accommodate big families in style. While details about the new full-size 2023 Sequoia haven't been officially released, we're keeping a close watch on new developments here at Parkway Toyota in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Here's what we know so far.
Announcements coming soon, arrival dates projected for this summer
According to the latest reports we've seen, the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia is expected to arrive starting this summer. The new Sequoia is a design and engineering cousin of the Tundra. It will come in the SR5 trim, as well as the Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and Capstone models. Starting price is expected to be in the $50,000 area, which is about the same ballpark it's in now. The Sequoia will have new technology, enhanced interiors and much more.
Anticipated performance
The new Toyota Sequoia is expected to run with a standard hybrid powertrain in every model. The engine choice is being described as a powerful one: A twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 hybrid. It's believed this will be the same hybrid engine currently available in the 2022 Toyota Tundra full-size pickup. Coupled with an electric motor, it produces a combined 437 horsepower and 583 very assertive pounds-feet of torque.
An early glimpse of the design
It's reported that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia will treat full-size SUV owners to an imposing grille that's slightly more trim than the 2022 Tundra's. One reviewer described his favorite rear three-quarter view as being focused on the Sequoia's fashionably thin taillights as a visual highlight. New exterior colors that will be attracting attention in Hackensack and Paramus, NJ should include one called Lunar Rock and another titled Supersonic Red.
What the interior should look like
We already know the Sequoia will still seat up to eight. Beyond that, we can again get strong clues on the Sequoia's interior from the newest Tundra models. In the Tundra SR5, an 8-inch touch screen comes standard. A generous 14-inch upgrade is available on the SR5 and is standard across the rest of the line. If that pattern holds for the new Sequoia, these full-size SUVs will generate a lot of buzz around Fort Lee and North Bergen NJ.
Like the Tundra, it's expected that the new Sequoia will offer wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. In terms of seating, families should get a choice of either a second-row bench or individual captain's chairs. The bench in the third row is exceptionally versatile. It can slide as much as six inches and you'll be able to fold it down to fit snugly into an adjustable cargo shelf.
Some of the more rough-and-ready options we're expecting
The Sequoia SR5 and Limited trims will have a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) off-road package available. It will include a locking rear differential, black 18-inch TRD wheels and Bilstein dampers. Other rugged additions will include a selection of Multi-Terrain drive modes and a specialized off-road cruise control.
